“A Morning Worth Waking Up To”

There was a time waking felt like drowning,

like breaking through the surface

only to find there was no air,

only the weight of another day

pressing heavy on my chest.

Sleep was the only place

where my mind let me go,

where the world didn’t ask me

to carry its weight,

to wear its mask,

to pretend.

But maybe this isn’t forever.

Maybe one day,

the air won’t feel so thick,

the sun won’t burn so cold,

and I’ll wake up to something softer,

something lighter,

something that doesn’t make me wish

for the silence of sleep.

Maybe one day,

I’ll wake up,

and I’ll be glad I did.
